There’s something magical about eating your way through Rome with a takeaway box in hand and nowhere to be except the next beautiful street corner. Some of my favorite meals in Rome were quick bites eaten on my hotel balcony, fresh pasta enjoyed beside fountains, and pizza folded in half while wandering cobblestone streets.
If you’re looking for the best takeaway food in Rome, these are the 5 spots I still talk about long after coming home. From crispy Roman pizza and fresh pasta to unforgettable gelato and iconic bakeries, these casual food spots are perfect for travelers wanting authentic food without spending hours at a sit-down restaurant.
1. Florida Pizza
Best Roman Pizza by the Slice
If you only try one takeaway pizza spot in Rome, make it Florida Pizza. This classic Roman-style pizza shop serves pizza al taglio, meaning pizza sold by weight, with endless varieties lined up behind the counter. This pizza is so good I went back three times on my one week trip to Rome. By the end of the trip the staff knew me by name and I knew them.
One of the best parts is trying multiple flavors since you can order as little or as much as you want. It’s fast, affordable, and perfect for grabbing lunch between sightseeing. I ended up bringing slices to my hotel and eating them on our rooftop terrace while watching the sunset.
What to order:
- Patate pizza
- Margherita
- Anything fresh out of the oven
Perfect for: Cheap eats in Rome, quick lunch stops, casual food lovers
Pizza Florida – Via Florida, 25, 00186 Rome, Italy
2. Fiocco di Neve
The Gelato Stop You Can’t Skip
Rome is filled with gelato shops, but Fiocco di Neve completely stood out to me. The flavors tasted rich, fresh, and intensely authentic without being overly sweet. Every bite was creamy and indulgent in the best way. However, my favorite dessert at Fiocco di Neve is their Affogato; fresh coffee and a scoop of your favorite gelato.
After long days of walking through Rome’s historic streets, stopping for gelato was the perfect treat. Wandering Rome at night with gelato in hand feels peak Italian vacation energy.
What to order:
- Pistachio
- Stracciatella
- Affogato
- Seasonal flavors
Perfect for: Dessert lovers, afternoon breaks, nighttime walks through Rome
Fiocco di Neve — Via del Pantheon, 51, 00186 Rome, Italy
3. Forno Campo de’ Fiori
The Bakery Everyone Stops For
Located right near the famous Campo de’ Fiori market, Forno Campo de’ Fiori is one of those places where the smell alone pulls you inside. This historic bakery is known for its legendary pizza bianca — simple, airy Roman flatbread finished with olive oil and salt. Their patate pizza was life changing. Everything here is perfection.
It’s chaotic, crowded, and absolutely worth it. Watching locals pile in and out carrying warm paper bags made the experience feel even more authentic.
What to order:
- Pizza bianca w/ Mortadella
- Patate pizza
- Anything warm from the bakery trays
Perfect for: Morning snacks (Merenda), market walks, authentic Roman bakery experiences
Forno Campo de’ Fiori — Campo de’ Fiori, 22, 00186 Rome, Italy
4. Roscioli
A Food Lover’s Dream in Rome
Roscioli is one of the most famous food spots in Rome for a reason. Between the bakery, deli, restaurant, and takeaway options, there’s something for everyone. Even grabbing something simple here feels elevated.
The ingredients are what make everything unforgettable; incredible cheeses, cured meats, fresh bread, and perfectly balanced flavors in every bite. I stopped here for breakfast to try their famous Maritozzi. It was so good I went back for another the next day.
What to order:
- Fresh sandwiches
- Pizza
- Maritozzi
- Roman specialties
Perfect for: Foodies, elevated casual dining
Roscioli Salumeria con Cucina — Via dei Giubbonari, 21, 00186 Rome, Italy
5. Pastasciutta
The Best Quick Pasta Near the Vatican
Pastasciutta proves you don’t need a fancy restaurant for incredible pasta in Rome. This tiny takeaway pasta spot became one of our favorite affordable meals during the trip. The portions are generous, the pasta is fresh, and everything tastes homemade.
It’s especially perfect after visiting St. Peter’s Basilica or the Vatican when you want something quick, comforting, and delicious without sitting through a long meal. Watching bowls of steaming pasta constantly fly out of the kitchen tells you everything you need to know. Depending on what time of day you go, you can expect about a 30 minute line. It is worth the wait though!
What to order:
- Cacio e pepe
- Carbonara
Perfect for: Budget travelers, quick meals, pasta lovers
Pastasciutta — Via delle Grazie, 5, 00193 Rome, Italy (near the Vatican)
Final Thoughts
Some of my favorite moments in Rome happened with takeaway food in hand and no real plan besides wandering. Eating casually through the city lets you slow down, discover hidden corners, and experience Rome the way locals do.
Whether you’re grabbing pizza between landmarks, eating fresh pasta on a quiet side street, or ending the night with gelato by the Trevi Fountain, these are the meals that become part of the memories long after.
